![]() he's wiccan, which is a peaceful religion (i myself was wiccan for years). The song? it's a mixture of the movie and of sully's spirituality. ![]() They are influenced by AIC, but the name is from the cold sore incident. but the story behind the band's name, and the song, have always been the same, all members have concurred. ![]() some even called them a "strait-edge" band, falsely so, but still. they've always been pretty open about the fact that they weren't too big into drugs. But they both agreed the bands name wasn't about drugs, Satan, or anything else. But Robbie Merrill said he liked the name because of the Alice in Chains song "God Smack". The next day, he woke up with one and somebody commented "It looks like God smacked you in the face for making fun of the other guy". The bands name, according to Sully, was a story about making fun of a friend years ago with a cold sore or something on their lip. He then explained outside of a drinking problem years ago, he never used heroin so he would have no idea how to write a song of its powerful addiction (even his recent autobiography confirms he has never used heroin). We all love that movie and I wrote the song while watching it so if you do the whole Pink Floyd-Wizard of Oz thing with Voodoo and that movie, the song explains its self to what is going on with the film.". It's about the movie 'The Serpent and The Rainbow' 100%. ![]() Somebody yelled "Voodoo is about heroin addiction isn't it?" and Sully laughed and said "No, no, no, no, f*** no. The venue held less than 500 so you could hear them talk all the way in the back so they took the opportunity to answer questions. At the House of Blues, vocalist Sully Erna stated that this inspiration was the film The Serpent and the Rainbow.I got a chance to catch Godsmack a couple years back when they were doing the acoustic tours. The idea of zombies came from the original inspiration of the song. The video features Laurie Cabot and members of her coven at that time. Zombies come out of a lake and wander through the woods. A naked gorgon is shown dancing, which is also part of the ritual. The band is shown throughout the video playing in a corn field. The video, directed by Dean Karr, shows witches performing a ritual with swords. "Voodoo" has since spawned a sequel, in the form of "Voodoo Too", from the album IV. Although "Voodoo" itself is 4:40 in length, the actual length (including the aforementioned silence and the hidden track "Witch Hunt") is 9:02. After roughly two minutes of silence, a hidden track (entitled "Witch Hunt") closes the album. "Voodoo" is the final track listed on the album. The song was also used by WWE wrestler Batista during his time as Leviathan in the former WWE developmental territory Ohio Valley (OVW) from 2000 to 2002. The song was used in the MTV television program Fear. The song was written by the band's vocalist Sully Erna and bassist Robbie Merrill. " Voodoo" is a song by rock band Godsmack and the third single from their self-titled album.
